bleh

true art discussion really annoys me because people try to use it as a term of approval rather than a descriptor

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
see p much every complaint about how modern art isn't real art when that train has long since passed and probably conviently ignoring the what context it came from

Rollercoasters or fake scenery?

Before everyone jumps in and says 'lol comradesmiler is that you', I'm betting it wasn't. And before anyone asks, that's the rollercoaster Nemesis at Alton Towers, in Staffordshire in the UK. I've ridden on it and it's amazing.

Smooth, Comrade, but you're reeeeeeeeeally not helping the cause here, LOL.

comradesmiler: ALL HAIL THE QUEEN (Nemesis)

Nemesis is pure awesome. And due to tree height restrictions, has a rather interesting definition of "Thinking outside the box."

I looooove Nemesis! I live in Staffordshire so Alton Towers has been a yearly tradition since I was weeny! Nemesis has always been my favourite <3

Rollercoasters should be considered an art form. I love what B&M have done for the field. (And if I had any skills in physics, I totally would've sought out a job with them.)

(Anonymous) 2015-03-01 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Have you seen Montu and Alpengeist? Beautiful lil' babies <3

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Architecture has always had ties with art (IIRC Frank Lloyd Wright considered himself an artist more than an architect) so I don't see a reason why this shouldn't be.

Roller coasters?

I'm not sure if I'd class it as art, but Nemesis is still one of my favourite rollercoasters ever. Right from the overall design/theme to the actual on ride experience. I'd only ever experienced UK coasters until last year when I went to Magic Mountain (I didn't get to go to foreign theme parks growing up as my mother has a fear of flying.) My tiny English not-got-many-extreme-theme-parks mind was blown by X2 and Tatsu but even though those are awesome I still have a massive soft spot for Nemesis. Perhaps because I was only nine when I first went on that...idk.

The Smiler is pretty good too, in terms of Alton Towers coasters!

A long time ago, I remember watching a documentary about the conception, design process and building of Nemesis and world/story-building that went into it displayed more creativity than I've seen in some movies.

Interactive art installations maybe? When rides are themed to the point where they're a whole immersive experience, how is that different from immersing yourself in any other medium?

Is this the "I'm saving F!S" secret maker coming up with a lot of weird, random, and not actually fandom-y secrets? :/

Um... but it is?? Within the postmodernist framework, literally anything can be art as long as there's someone who says that it is art. Just go ahead and gush about the art of rollercoasters. It's perfectly legitimate.

Rollercoasters?

I think of physics more than I do art with them, to be honest. But I do love them.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-01 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
I mean most everything humans produce can be considered art, I don't see why this wouldn't be.
