I know, it's so rude but unless I forcibly reminds myself that there's a human in there, somehow it just routes straight to "not person, object". I try to remind myself not to stare.

When it's Pyramid Head, I think this might actually be an appropriate response, since I'd say he's more object than person.

Of course, if their face is covered, these cosplayers might be staring right back at you @_@!
