Yup. I think it is a slightly common opinion maybe? I don't know. I just know I was so disappointed. He even made torturing Harry somehow campy. How could he so misread that scene? One of my favorite book scenes and the movie version is just not good (although most of his later scenes were worse).

I found his Voldemort menacing in the same way as Moriarty in BBC Sherlock; he's creepy because he's so whimsically batshit, prancing through a field of murder in his flowy little hospital gown with no regard for how normal people should behave. YMMV of course, but I think that kind of villain is fun to watch and probably horrifying to be around in-verse because they lack any reason.

Just such a strange thing. It's mainly the acting that trips the scene up. Not the costume, special effects or music. Just the acting from an actor who should be able to do this.
