Reading secret #7 got me thinking-- what shows have you only gotten or stayed into for fandom?

Star Trek Reboot

The new movie kind of suck, but the fandom is fun

I've read a lot of Sentinel fic. Never seen the show. I kinda hate myself for that.

The show has not aged well. I think most people just live off of fanon these days.

The fanon Sentinel/Guide dynamic has migrated into so many other fandoms as AUs, that I built up an entirely false impression of what the show would be like. That and the fact that the show hadn't aged well, as you say, really put me off.

Agreed. I heard about the Sentinal via fic AU's for other fandoms. I loved what I found so I thought the source must be great. I was horribly confused and watched only one episode.

Game of Thrones until recently!

I read some SNK fics but I have not actually watched any of it. D:

I'm only still into GoT because of my particular trash pairing. The crew for the ship has some great people and they've kept me invested in the show, even if D&D are awful

I'm still so tempted to stop quite frequently

At this point, I can't really call myself an OUAT fan, since I only stick around for fandom and stopped watching before the end of season 3. It doesn't help that Neal was one of my favorite characters.

Aldnoah Zero, a bit. And SnK, but I don't follow it month-to-month anymore. Too emotionally exhausting.

I only began watching H50 because of fandom; I saw a humorous Steve/Danny vid, then decided to see if the fic was any good (which I don't typically do before actually experiencing the canon), and it was enough to get me to watch the show.

Haven't read H50 fic in quite a while but the show has its moments and I wouldn't want to give it up; the main cast is lovely.

One way to still have things to talk about on LJ was to watch Glee. Then everyone gave up, so I did too.

MLP, definitely. I love not knowing what people are talking about when they complain about common types of sexism in fic. So many of those tropes cease to exist in a female-dominated setting.

The MLP:FiM fandom is full of sexism.

If you read Spike harem fics or author-insert-becomes-an-Alicorn, I guess. But seriously, the F/F, the genfic, and even the M/M are amazingly non-sexist. (And I can't believe I'm describing non-sexist as something amazing.)

+1 to the ponies, but -1 to the sexism

Merlin - but pretty much everyone was in it for the fandom after about Season 3 or so. :P

Currently trying to find a way to watch Teen Wolf because the fandom looks fun, and because I have two term papers to write that I really don't wanna. :P

Depending on the part of Teen Wolf fandom you're involved with, some people only really include the first two seasons in their fandoming. Anything after that is fair game to ignore partially or entirely.

I was into Hetalia some years ago because the fanwork was so much more interesting. The comics laid out bare-bits skeleton of a character to work with most of the time, so obviously I turn to the fandom to run laps around that.

Man, I miss ye olde Hetalia fanworks. I like the fanworks more than canon too. Pre-dub LJ comm days were sweet. There were some great fancomics from near the start of the comm that were deleted by the artist (understandably). The discussions, the art, the fic. I'm glad I saved a folder of my favourite LJ fic and kink meme fills, would be a pain to look for them now. This reminds me there are a couple more fics in my bookmarks I need to save. And maybe I'll re-read my 1920s anthology one day.
