That's a fair point, tbh. It's the only thing that makes me optimistic - Russia wouldn't go against NATO. Still, this does nothing to guarantee there won't be a full-scale Cold War with a global European energy crisis and similar shit.

Pretty sure the Cold War never ended. just became less visible thanks to the internet and cyber warfare.

That depends on your definition of what constitutes a cold war, of course. But regardless, I'm mostly afraid the conflict will escalate so much that it'll seriously affect people's living conditions and turn Russia's political climate into a quasi-Soviet one.

I don't agree. It's not the Cold War again. It's more that the underlying conditions that led to the Cold War are still more or less there. It turns out that Russia's always going to want security and it's always going to want to exert influence over its neighbors. Structural realism, yo.

And even then, there was a good 10 years where things were actually pretty chill, mostly due to internal dynamics in Russia.
