I haven't been following the manga for a while. What the heck is happening now?

not sure when exactly you stopped reading, but a little while ago it turned out that Eren accidentally ate his dad when he first shifted into his titan form and forgot about it (thus ending the "where the fuck is his father at?" mystery somewhat anticlimactically ) and I'm still laughing about it

Wow that's... that's really bad. And there goes my interest in picking up this series again. The last time I inquired about it some anon kindly informed me that the story was then focusing on the evil government and church and I was already like, "...that's not I'm here for."

Historia was going to eat Eren to save the world, then she decided not to do it because Ymir she hates humanity and now they're all enemies of humanity!
Also Eren is trying to get hard to save everyone from Historia's daddy.

Historia is the heir of the Reiss family which are the True Kings and apparently they are all titan shifters (or were, until Eren's dad killed them all and stole their fancy Reiss power that allows them to control people and wipe memories, and apparently only the person with that power remembers what really happened and what's so awful that they decided that being locked up in the walls and eaten by titans is the better deal). Eren got kind of suicidal, Levi, Mikasa and co. came to rescue him from Historia who turned on her dad.
Also Levi is an Ackerman which is a fancypants clan or something that the Reiss power doesn't work on, and when they undergo trauma they can "snap" and become super-strong or whatever which explains Levi and Mikasa.
At the end of last chapter Historia's dad turned into a titan and it looks like Eren's going to get Armored Titan powers.

it's... kind of a clusterfuck, but it appears less so when you read it as opposed to summarise it >_>
