In the comics, Steve ran around with a flaming robot dude, an underwater king wearing hotpants, and a couple of adolescents during WWII. It's pretty safe to say what holds true in the comics does not necessarily hold true in the movies.

Maybe they'll make Sharon a love interest. Maybe it will be done in a creepy fashion. But the people who are throwing a shitfit over her basically just existing for a couple of scenes now aren't objecting for legitimate reasons, because merely existing in the general vicinity of another character is not actually objectionable.

You seem to be missing the point though:

I haven't seen anyone criticize Sharon's scenes in and of themselves.

I have seen people criticize the disappointing lack of development -- which is fair considering she was very out of focus in The Winter Soldier. She may, of course, be more developed later on, but they didn't do nearly as much with her as they did with, say, Sam Wilson for instance. That isn't a criticism of Sharon herself, though, merely how the writers incorporated her into the story.

That Sharon is Steve's love interest in the comics is a BIG reason why people are saying they don't want it.

Natasha and Peggy are both readily accepted as fanon and canon love interests for Steve. And lots of people would be happy to see Natasha/Steve become canon (I personally, have no issue with it, although I do prefer Clintasha and then BuckyNat).

The reason Sharon AS A POSSIBLE LOVE INTEREST is taking heat is because, since it's happened in the comics, and people find the dynamic creepy, they don't want to have to endure it in MCU.

It's not that she's around Steve. It's that the possibility of a romantic relationship risks squicking people the hell out and negatively impacting how they view the characters.

So they're raising objections on those grounds.

No, I think the point is intensely stupid.

You are criticizing shit that has not happened yet. It would be like people freaking out over the possibility of Mockingbird/Hawkeye becoming movie canon - the only basis for complaint is that 1) the character exists in the MCU and 2) the character is a love interest in an entirely different canon universe. The problem is not people saying "I'd rather not see them get together", it is the massive fucking temper tantrums people are throwing about this character daring to exist at all because they've decided for whatever asinine reason that the ship is a foregone conclusion.

A ship that has not happened yet, but has happened in the comics.

And that would really harm the way I see the characters, especially Steve, because it squicks me out.

I've already had too many Steve/Howard fanfics ruined by the introduction of Steve/Tony so I'd rather avoid it in the actual films.

Also:

Where has anyone stated that Sharon SHOULDN'T EXIST? Because I haven't seen that at all. Sharon being a badass SHIELD agent carrying on Peggy's legacy is NOT AT ALL a problem to me.

No one is saying Sharon doesn't have the right to exist or "how dare she!"

The ship isn't equal to the character. Criticizing Steve/Sharon is not criticism of Sharon herself. She isn't the ship.

Isn't the very possibility of her becoming a love interest what people are finding objectionable? To these folks, any kind of romance will be creepy regardless of portrayal just because of the relation to Peggy.
