I might be more squicked by this kind of thing if I hadn't watched a lot of soaps.

Man, they do some weird replacement things in soaps. They will replace actors for roles between one episode and the next (and you get a voiceover announcement in the beginning of the episode saying, "The role of Dagger Sinclair is now being played by Rep Lacement.") And, aside from maybe one or two little throwaway jokes ("Did you do something new with your hair?"), the other characters don't really notice. Every once in a while they'll go through some sort of machinations (terrible accident, plastic surgery, etc.) to bring someone else into the role. But the twin thing is maybe the most fun - if they don't want to make a character's death a not-death, but the actor wants to come back, they sometimes bring them in as an unknown twin sibling or lookalike cousin or lookalike stranger (that usually turns out to be related in some way).

Or children will go upstairs and then come back down as a different, older actor.

Also, "Dagger Sinclair" is the best name ever.

Ah, yes, I had forgotten the famous RAS (Rapid Aging Syndrome, which hits when the child is too old to be really cute, but too young to participate in teen storylines. Thanks for reminding me!

Thank you, I was proud of the name (and maybe a little shocked they never used it on a soap).
