This is what fanfic kids believe.

Fanfics are god tier for the porn genre, and that's all. Everything else is done much better by original fiction. Inb4 but original fiction has a lot of shit stories too. Yes, it does. But the good ones are much much better than the best fanfics.

By what metrics? I mean, it's incredibly rare in my experience to come across This Could/Should Be A Novel-level of fanfic, but there are legit writers who hone their craft via fanfic. Alternately, there is some badly-edited, trite, insulting dreck that gets published.
