Look, the book doesn't matter it's irrelevant, and anyone you're totally misreading all those passages, it can't be that some guy who thought god was talking to him in the desert was wrong.

Wait, what do you mean that the number of believers who support just hateful shit is the majority, it's all about some platonic ideal I hold which boils down to "Muhammed/Jesus was a pretty cool guy who only supported strongly liberal beliefs exactly matching those progressives hold now".

In order for it to be necessary to reject all Abrahamic religions for being bigoted, that bigotry must be intrinsic to their nature.

However, there are notable organized sects within all the Abrahamic religions which are not bigoted.

Ergo, bigotry is not intrinsic to Abrahamic religions, and it is not required to dismiss all of them out of hand.

So stop being a fucking dickwad.

This isn't the case.

You're never going to dismiss the bigotry of the works of god they have, unless you entirely dispense with them, and everything that's come from them, and the bigoted culture that represents the mainstream.

At which point, for all intents and purposes you can't meaningfully call yourself a member of the religion. Or at the very least, need to rein in the defensivness when someone mounts a critique of it.

So . . . Methodists aren't real Christians?

"Methodism affirms the traditional Christian belief in the triune Godhead: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as well as the orthodox understanding of the consubstantial humanity and divinity of Jesus. Methodists also affirm the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed.[18] In devotional terms, these confessions are said to embrace the biblical witness to God's activity in creation, encompass God's gracious self-involvement in the dramas of history, and anticipate the consummation of God's reign."

?

That'd fall under the other modifier.

To clarify: your argument is that taking any of the major holy books of the Abrahamic religions to be valid in and of itself is enough to make one bigoted, because those books are intrinsically wrong and bigoted?

In the context of people making th eother critiques (jokes as a defence or perpetuation of harmful beleifs etc)?

Yes.

Ah, fair enough, I see your point then.

This.

To add, ill_omened's argument relies on the idea that ill_omened is competent to define what is and what isn't the true and essential nature of all the Abrahamic religions, regardless of what the actual practitioners say about it. And that's why it's a bad argument.
