Well gee, what a moron. A good weekly or monthly will give you more depth than a newspaper (much less TV or radio) with a much shorter turn-around than the book market, especially if you have a particular focus.

Not to mention that periodicals are one of the primary short story and novella markets.

What was particularly confounding is that it was Time, a news magazine. Like, this stuff is supposed to be fast and condensed, rather than in-depth.
