Text: She was probably the most hated mother in recent anime until Kill la Kill came along, but I kind of felt for her. She was clearly unprepared to take care of a special need child, and I felt like I could understand how she became so bitter and hurtful.

Just because someone is a bad/terrible/abusive person doesn't mean you can't feel sympathy for them.

Completely unrelatable monsters are not that common.

i can understand to a point. it's hard to deal with a special needs child and especially since it seemed she was driving everyone away because kotora couldn't understand (at least when she's young) that there are some things that's not meant to be shared, even if you could read their minds.

but, i draw the line at abandoning kotora. if it wasn't for the monk and the grandfather, she'd probably be in worse mental condition than she already is.
