OP

(Anonymous) 2015-03-05 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
There were various things about it that I found 'problematic', to summarize a fairly long list with one catch-all SJW buzzword (though the epilogue warrants a special mention for being skeevy as hell). Yet nobody ever seems to think it's worth giving even a passing mention to the questionable stuff when handing out gushing recommendations.

Whether it personally bugs them or not, I honestly kinda question the judgement of people who can't even acknowledge why this or that element might bother other people, and maybe warrant a word of warning about.

Including, apparently, you.

To be fair, the OP isn't actually recommending Kare Kano, and it seems most of their frustration lies with people who do without mentioning those things.

I'd put 'complaining about the problematic parts' ahead of 'reccing the series' on the 'must actually talk about the problematic parts' hierarchy, personally.

I'm not understanding you, I'm sorry. ^^;

Re: OP

I think that kamino meant was: OP is complaining about how reccers don't comment on the "problematic elements" of the series when they rec it, and OP thinks that's a really important aspect of it. However, OP then COMPLETELY neglects to mention what any of these "problematic elements" are. So kamino's point is, if the problematic elements are so important that OP expects them to be laid out in a rec, then WHY THE HECK are they not important enough for OP to lay them out in his/her complaint about the former. Does that make more sense?

^ Same anon.

Or to put it even more simply, "the burden of discussing the problematic elements should fall on the person complaining about them, not on the people reccing the series."

It's not even about whether the problems are important enough to mention in a rec. If you have a complaint, you should lay out what it is when complaining.

Only 'cause I was trying to avoid invoking the "tl;dr" reaction, really.

In short, the ending of Twilight that had everyone frothing over how "pedophilia" and "grooming" and so forth? - the epilogue of this manga is pretty much like that, only without even the supernatural excuse of 'imprinting'. I read it with the biggest D: face ever.

(There was other stuff in the series that other people might consider worth trigger warnings - child abuse, the male lead being a controlling asshat, questionable consent... some of which, as has already been noted, is so standard in the romance genre that you kinda expect not to be warned for it, but still.)

blergh, that does sound bad.

I never found anything problematic about it. But you keep on being just like the people on Tumblr, OP.

Seriously. I remember that series being cute and no where near problematic the way OP is sounding.
