So I sometimes see things about people meeting their SOs through fandom, but have you ever or do you know people who have got their SO into fandom? Would you find that weirder?

Like I ask because for some reason meeting through fandom seems normal or okay to me, but getting someone not in fandom into it because you're in a relationship with them just feels totally awkward to think about. Even if said SO wasn't against fandom, just unaware of it.

Is this bad? Like if I had an SO who didn't know stuff then I didn't really want them to share my interests, but I wouldn't mind meeting an SO through that interest.

Also for people on FS with SOs, how much about fandom do they know? Are there parts of fandom that you participate in that they don't? Do they know about places like FS?

My husband is not in fandom but he knows I am; he knows I write fanfic and has helped me come up with jokes or titles before (he is much wittier than I am). Sometimes I show him secrets on FS or talk about a post on the flist with him. He likes all the media I'm fannish about as well. This works well for us, and I think I would also like it if he were in fandom too.

However, I have friends whose husbands are very dismissive of their fannish involvement to the point where at least one of them has to hide her fannish activities because her husband polices her internet use. I don't think I could be in a relationship like that because the disdain for fandom in these relationships is just symptomatic of a larger relationship problem to me.

I'm the sole defender of fanfiction in the circle of friends that includes my girlfriend. She used to be in HP fandom back in the day but only the discussion side of it. I'm not really interested in trying to get her into other parts of fandom because she's not interested in it. It might be fun to introduce someone if they were curious though.

My husband knows that I write fanfic and that I'm involved with fandom, but he doesn't care to know about it. And that's fine by me. I wouldn't want to show him my smutty fics anyway, ahahaha.

I got my boyfriend into Marvel, but he's more into canon/meta and not into shippy things or fanfic (though I recently found out he read fanfic when younger).
