Flip side of this makes me stop reading/watching; 100% irredeemably evil characters are justified to the max, and they're almost idolized, when IRL, they would be literally behind bars or something.

I think the first and second ones get extra creepy when the villians are "broken" in some way - ie. disabled, disfigured, ambiguously gay.

It's just like "Hmmm, what are you saying here, writers?"
