Sure. But I haven't talked to these people or actually witnessed anyone doing it (nor am I likely to, since I don't really visit tumblr). So I'd prefer not to draw any conclusions about it, since I don't know how serious they are about it, or anything like that.

the best route is to just hate them all and acknowledge any in your personal life you find out about or otherwise end up talking to as "the good ones/exceptions"

I am so tired of this "Well, it sounds ridiculous but who am I to judge" attitude that is so prevalent these days. Screw that. This is, above, is stupid. Don't encourage it. Not to mention, it makes a mockery of people actually have mental illnesses in where their brain distorts reality.

I'm less pleading "there are no valid standards by which we can judge things", and more pleading "I've never actually seen anyone do this and I'd prefer not to condemn people based entirely on secondhand reports that I have no way of knowing are accurate."

It's just... I don't know, I've never interacted with these people, I've never seen them, I'm basically totally removed from them.

Same with me. There are people I've been wary of because yeah, it feels like they have something else going on rather than what they think they do - but I don't know them, and I'm certainly not a therapist, so I can't say they can't really have DID or anything else.
