Is this something specific to the movie?

In the book, one thing that made me kind of like Amy was that she actually put saying goodbye to him on her list of stuff to do. And I was glad he didn't die (since pets in mystery books tend to not survive).

Anyway, getting run over is the only thing on your list I'd have worried about. Cats normally stay out of water on their own.

I was so worried for the cat because of that. I was sure it was gonna die before the end.

I suspect this has to be a troll just for the ridiculousness of the scenarios listed. Attacked by a dog, run over, getting lost and not being able to look after itself those are all things to worry about; but the average cat that doesn't live on a boat or something is almost certainly not at risk or drowning or shark attack.

I think they may have gone for the ridiculous situations just so they wouldn't get upset while creating the secret. I exaggerate things to pretty ridiculous lengths when I'm trying to avoid getting emotional.

The "eaten by a shark" was actually part of Nick's internal monologue about the cat getting out.
