B) Check the updates to the DSM V, because we are. It's all one name now. Autism Spectrum Disorders is it, that's the one name, and those of us whose diagnoses changed because of it have to deal with that change even though change is difficult.
C) I was officially diagnosed as having Asperger's, back when it was a separate condition. I am now officially diagnosed as having Autism. I have not changed. There is still a spectrum, but the people who are on one end are not better than the people at the other end, and it is really unpleasant to treat those who are perhaps 'lower functioning' poorly.(also, from purely a 'receiving services' standpoint, it's definitely better to be diagnosed with autism if you need any kind of aid)
As to OP, I have no idea what this is from, but I'll check it out. However, I don't think autistic headcanons are silly-- I don't agree with all of them, and I've seen some that are particularly questionable, or at least poorly explained, but by and large, autistic headcanons are made and shared by people who have experiences with ASD-- either themselves or family. For me, I, my brother, and my father are all on the autism spectrum, and we're similar but different. I know a lot of people on the spectrum who present differently still. And there are some differences in how ASD tends to present between boys and girls as well. So a character not fitting the 'Autism Classic' doesn't mean that an autistic headcanon for that character is way off-- it means they resemble a different set of characteristics that speak to someone. Often it means the character reminds an autistic viewer of themselves, and we kind of have to headcanon a lot of our own representation, since the characters we're given who are textually autistic tend to fit a very narrow stereotype.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-07 01:11 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, they do. You're not the boss of the internet, and if you say stupid shit people can call you on it. If you don't like it, tough titties. People will be nice to you when you stop being an asshole.

Signed,
Another person on the spectrum whose doctor would've diagnosed as Asperger's had it been a year earlier.
