How can an art style be 'hipster'? Seriously, as an artist I want to know.

And I've seen variations of your examples of 'ugly art' for what feels like forever. It's not anything new to me. Or is that your point? It's like fake hipster?

When it tries too hard to be ~different~ and ~unique~ and nothing like the mainstream, really. Being ugly and unappealing is the point, because that makes it ~deep~.

I feel like that's putting a huge limit on art, by just saying "oh they're doing it to be unique and different and hipster but they're trying too hard." Like, Do you want all this art to be exactly like the mainstream? If anything I think stylistic development and growth is important because otherwise we're just stuck in this infinite loop of the same old shit being recycled over and over and over again, and it's getting old. If we're all just going to write it off as hipster try-hard garbage, then what's the point, let's just accept all our shitty mainstream shit and be done with it.

Personally, I'm getting fucking tired of seeing quirky mystery boy goes on adventure in quirky simplistic animation style (steven universe/adventure time/otgw/etc)
