I agree. (also I especially hate "She wasn't like other girls". It's meaningless because it's operating on the assumption that theirs only two kinds of girls. which is bullshit)

I think sometimes people use stock phrases or even stock cliches because they feel like that's the only way to express something.

I wish the "not like other teens" thing in YA would die. What's wrong with the protagonist being just a regular teen? I'd think it would make them more relate-able.

I suspect it's meant to appeal to that mindset where people feel alienated from everyone else even though they're not really that dissimilar.

it's not, but considering that they put a link to their AO3 account (which is the same name as their deleted DW account) on their DW profile, I must assume that they aren't trying to disguise themselves
