How long are we going to parade the "it's all Nick's fault" excuse around when Nick actually posted a video on the website explicitly acknowledging and celebrating Korrasami? Bryan clearly said in his post they asked Nick if it was possible way later than they should've, and even if Nick said no, they still could have, uh. Actually written and developed Korra and Asami's relationship as good friends with a heavy romantic subtext if they wanted to. I know a lot of people think that's what happened, but with all due respect, shippers aren't known for their impartial viewing experiences.

(Zutara.)

Nick is a bunch of asshats who treated the show like shit, but the idiot ball is firmly in Bryke's hands for this one. Korra and Asami were never going to tonguekiss on screen, but did they even need to? In this instance the only "constraint" I can see is actual making out. There's "not perfect" and then there's "did you even try".

My feelings exactly.

I absolutely hate everyone automatically jumping on Nick when it comes to the major faults of LoK. Yes, Nick is a big mean corporate bully. But you know what? Bryke still had plenty of control over the show. They deserve plenty of blame for LoK's failures without shoehorning "but Nickelodeon did this...!" into it as some kind of excuse.

They failed to show Korra and Asami as a budding romantic relationship. People with ship goggles will see whatever they want to see, but it was poorly done and barely there. And it sure as fuck wasn't just Makorra shippers that were skeptical about the ending until Bryke "confirmed" it. Bryke shouldn't have had to go "yes it was totally romantic" after the fact to make it canon. Had Asami (or Korra) been a guy there would have undoubtedly been an onscreen kiss at least, if not a straight up declaration of feelings. Bryke don't deserve any accolades for hand holding in the last ten seconds. That's like Supernatural and Teen Wolf level of ship bait.

The fact that Korrasami happened at all is a great, hopeful change in the right direction. But it was not done well, and that is not the fault of Nickelodeon.

It's not bait if it's canon, though.

Actually written and developed Korra and Asami's relationship as good friends with a heavy romantic subtext if they wanted to.

This is what irks me the most tbh. You can't fucking tell me that they couldn't have bothered to actually develop the two of them as good friends with a romantic subtext. Actually show them hanging out more than they did. They could have had Asami go with Korra when she went to go see Zaheer instead of Mako, for example.
