Fanfic taking a relationship that's already canonically abusive and dialing it up to fucking eleven by making sure the abusive person violates every article of the Geneva Convention while they're at it. Leaving aside the rest of the reasons why that's not usually necessary, it feels really dismissive of the actual abuse suffered by the character in canon. Like it's not abusive enough until you throw in some rape and mutilation.

This drives me nuts, especially if the canon abuse isn't physical in the first place. Fuck that noise.
