Maybe it comes across differently in the book, but in the movie I don't think he was 'fixated'. ...Although trying to come up with another way to describe it I'm getting 'besotted' and 'devoted' and 'moping after', and all of those could be interpreted as fixated, couldn't they...

While it is of course possible that people are reading Austen's works as an "endorsement of twu wuv", whatever that means, I don't think that's a position that makes sense no matter how you interpret Brandon.
