Yeah, no. Since, like most people said here, cosplay 'critique' is often not even remotely about the costume but about someone's arbitrary decision that this person is 'too (insert descriptor here)' to be allowed to cosplay that character.

I would love to cosplay, but i've thought about it several times and just can't think of *who* i would cosplay. Annoying!

I've only cosplayed a handful of times, but my only criteria for deciding who to cosplay was "How much do I love this character?" with a side of "How complicated would their outfit be to make?"

That's it. I didn't think or care about whether I looked anything like them, whether I was the 'right' type, or what anyone else would think of me. I cosplayed because I wanted to express my love for the character. I'm sure someone somewhere judged me for it, but I never actually experienced any of it. Everyone else within that fandom were enthusiastic and everyone had a lot of fun.

+1

pick a favorite and go for it, tabaqui. You might be pleasantly surprised to find yourself with a new hobby. :)

Exactly. You do it for the love of the character! And sometimes prizes, and sometimes to feel bad-ass (or sexy or cute or whatever).

I don't care what your body type is, so long as you did your best to *be the character*.

I want to cosplay someone with a long, swingy coat..... Will Plunkett from 'Plunkett & Macleane' would be ideal. :)

Start collecting replica pistols now. Also damn would that be a fun group cosplay. Know anyone who'd make a good Macleane or Rochester?

ROCHESTER.
Perving on Plunkett, asking who is this 'delightful piece of rough'. In his purple top hat. OMG, how i luff him.

:)

Didn't Spike have a swingy coat at some point?

There's also The Matrix, though that may be kind of played out.

Hugh Jackman's Van Helsing - awful movie, but it might be fun to cosplay.

Back to the Future III had a bunch of dusters in it, though really anything set in the Old West will probably get you that (like Tombstone).

And I'm not really into Once Upon a Time, but Captain Hook's coat is pretty nice.

And there's Blade and Underworld.

Spike did, though i couldn't pull off the blond spikes.

Now, Captain Hook...that i could get into, for sure. Neverland and Pirates are always fun. :)

The rest...sorry, but...not a fan. Although Old West makes me want to do Calamity Jane. Deadwood Jane. She was *awesome*.

If you're going to do an OUAT character in a swingy coat, do Jefferson. He's more fun than Hook because he's not an ass. Also there's less "trying to sew leather and crying" involved. Plus top hat and awesome 360 degree neck scar.

Heeee.
I don't actually watch OUAT, so, no worries. But yes - that sounds fun. :)
