Showing two Black men in a relationship is more rare than showing an interracial relationship, but I think their problems had nothing to do with race. Jamal is blowing up and Micheal pretty much took none of Cookie's advice. It's better both of them broke off now than having to see Micheal be the "sad girlfriend" stereotype (something I'd rather not see portrayed by a Latino man).

I do hope he comes up again, but I think part of the pacing had to do with the season only being 13 episodes.
