Re: LOTR

I remember liking the idea of Eowyn/Aragorn the first time I read the books and being disappointed he ended up with someone barely mentioned.

Now, though, I'm totally down with canon pairings, even if I kind of ship Aragorn with everyone. He's pretty much my fandom bicycle.

I guess for Eowyn/Faramir I don't really care one way or another? I mostly love Eowyn on her own. I think they are kind of cute, but I also hate that them getting together coincides with Eowyn no longer being a shieldmaiden. And I also find Faramir kind of dull as a character. But I ship Eowyn/happiness, so I'm totally cool with them being together because it makes her happy.

I wonder if I would ship Eowyn/Faramir as much if I read the books now. (I think I would.) I loved both Eowyn and Faramir's characters, and was happy and surprised that they ended up meeting and falling in love. I also thought they were both perfect for each other; both of them were self-sacrificial, badly wounded on the field of battle, and were always out of place. And Faramir was someone who really seemed to love her, unlike Aragorn. That's how I remember them, anyways.

Eowyn no longer being a shieldmaiden after getting together with Faramir does make the pairing less epic though.
