I did hear somewhere that the song Stupid Girls by P!nk reminded Rowling of Hermione when put up against the likes of Pansy Parkinson. Which is interesting. Also Tonks has pink hair most of the time and she's obviously a good guy and a bit of a tomboy too. I think Umbridge's pink motif was just to make a contrast. She seemed so nice and sweet on the outside, all in pink and bows, but she was a monster inside.

I do remember Ginny wearing pink at a wedding and Harry thinking about how horribly it clashed with her hair? I might be remembering things wrong.
