Yea, I went from thinking Peggy/Sousa would be cute to being creeped out by it too. That line about him placing her on a pedestal was really powerful and made me look at their previous interactions differently. The minute he thinks she's unavailable he treats her like a different person. (And I know there's the whole matter of her 'betrayal', but during those scenes he came off as someone bitter that the person they like doesn't reciprocate their feelings. Maybe it was just me, but that line did truly make it seem like he was so good to her because he was hoping one day she might be interested in him, and if she weren't an option he wouldn't pay her much mind.)

I'm still not entirely sold on Peggy/Sousa but I really liked how they handled Sousa's character. The show/Peggy actively called him out on how his behavior was in a way just a different take on how Thompson and Dooley were treating her, and - and this is where he gets plus points from me - he took accepted her assessment and didn't get all mad and indignant about it. And when he asks Peggy out at the end of the last episode and she says no, he accepts it without complaining (even before she adds "well maybe some other day"). Sousa's not an angel free of the sexist ideas of his era, but I think he does genuinely respect Peggy as a person and is willing to learn from her.

You have a point (about him not denying his behavior or getting hostile after Peggy shoots him down)!

I feel like I should clarify that I don't think Sousa is scum of the earth or anything (I feel like he respects and trusts Peggy more than most as well), just, like you said, he isn't 'an angel free of sexism'. (I point this out because during the first episode I was thinking, "Oh, Sousa is so cute and perfect" and it took a little while for me to recognize that he had flaws like everyone else.)

I doubt I'll ever ship it because of their past (even though he could change!) and the fact that I'm already into Peggy/Angie, but with some growth it could happen in canon.
