'Shitty elitist' is being way too hard on yourself. IMO it has so many elements that SHOULD make it a shitty webcomic but yet... it's somehow so good. I wasn't expecting to like it either and I'm surprised by how much I really got into it. And hey, at least you went out of your way to try reading it in the first place!
(Whoever wants to give this comic a read: start here and read the first 100 strips before you decide whether or not you like it!)
OP
(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 03:39 am (UTC)(link)I only gave it a try because someone said in a forum thread that it was the only realistic depiction of teenagers they'd seen in a webcomic (as opposed to, say, Gunnerkrigg Court and Paranatural, where the kids sorta behave like kids but not quite) and that sounded worth checking out.
I'm glad I did, though! It starts with the dialogue, violence and art of a regular crappy comic, but then you start seeing hints that the author actually knows what he's doing (there is a sense of pacing, structure, layout, dialogue and character design that doesn't speak of an amateur) and then I was laughing and crying earnestly and realized it was a great story that had moved me more than anything had in years.
Even the way the characters act like jerks isn't just the author being edgy like it seems at first, but rather the characters being teens that are trying to deal with their lives like teens would irl, and that was a refreshing change.
