I too was surprised by the fact there's a porn star fandom. For some reason, it just never occurred to me that such a thing could exist.

I was surprised too. But mostly because I don't even know how people are watching porn with big names. I just watch some random videos on websites. Many of them are amateur.

Probably same way you do? Unless you go to specialized websites some of the porn is always going to be from big studios/illegal uploads/whatrever. I think most people stumble on a video they super love or maybe see the same guy show up a few times in videos and love his performance and get curious and look him up.

As we all know, you don't have to have watched a whole movie to get into a fandom. Gif sets on tumblr or a short trailer are enough to spawn ten thousand frothing fanworks on their own.

I wasn't aware there was much of a porn star fandom either, but I suppose people grow fond of porn stars the same way they might an actress or actor. (Do porn stars do interviews/behind the scenes stuff, too? I guess they must...I know reddit has had porn star AMA's before, so the fans can try to interact with them like any famous person. I guess most of them probably have twitter accounts too?)

AYRT, I don't know if they all do behind the scenes stuff and interviews, but I know some do. Basically I only know about the few I follow.

Ooo, that's interesting! Now I'm kind of curious as to what they talk about. (Other than the obvious. I guess some it might just be 'getting to know you' kind of stuff?)

Like, in behind the scenes interviews? About how they're feeling, their day, what they're looking forward to in the shoot, how the day went, etc, just normal stuff? In their blogs/twitters/whatever a lot of gay pornstars promote their other projects - like their art, or political activism or whatever. Like Colby Keller has an MFA I'm pretty sure and he basically uses porn to finance his art career.

Seriously, who can be an artist without some kind of other work to support it for the first years, even if it's just teaching art?

Ooo, that's pretty neat! (About his MFA.) And using porn to finance an art career is a smart move; as long as you're comfortable with it and get to do what you love I don't see the problem.
