This reminds me of a Harry Potter meta writer who's been conjuring up provably wrong "book canon" facts and their fans have been regurgitating them uncritically as well.

At one point someone insisted repeatedly that James Potter's Patronus was a nose-biting teacup. The origin of this was a since-recanted statement by the meta writer that JK Rowling had said so.

So as you can see, invented "book canon" later uncritically regurgitated as canon even when the meta writer themselves stated they had actually been wrong.
