Dead Space: Downfall is 75 minutes of bad animation, voice acting and writing that kind of takes away the cleverness of Dead Space's interesting take on the Aliens model of sci-horror.

It's trash that looks like it was made in the late 90s, janky anime-style animation and shitty CGI and all. I love it.

Oh man. I just looked at screenshots from it. Some of those characters look like Marilyn Manson music video characters.

Excuse me, Dead Space: Downfall was amazing in that it actually made more of Dead Space make god damn sense since, despite the quality, they did manage to fill in some plot holes.

Dead Space didn't so much have plot holes as half its backstory was shunted to its expanded universe. If you read through the comics as well as play Dead Space: Extraction, it all fits together with Downfall and DS1.

dead space made perfect sense, but you've made it clear that you just don't pay attention

The first game has a few gaping plot holes, like how the early Unitologists (the early faction) managed to co-opt the mining mission in the first place. It all got retconned in later games and the movies where it was implied that they were behind the dig the whole time because they were searching for "planetary signatures" that denoted the markers.

In the first game there was no mention that this was the case, and it was instead implied that the markers themselves had been influencing people to worship them by proximity alone (and causing them to go insane very shortly thereafter). Basically the way it all aligns, time wise, makes it highly unlikely that the marker would have been dug up or moved at all without everyone just going totally nuts and turning into monsters almost immediately. There's a file that implies all of the "epidemic" on the Ishimura happens within two or three weeks of exposure to marker samples, but another file notes that it took the team several months to fully unearth the marker.

This again all gets retconned later on, by the stipulation that it's not proximity to the marker but actual interaction with organisms that causes the metamorphosis to begin- therefore the Ishimura crew were turned faster than the workers who had only been exposed "atmospherically".

idk I didn't care too much for DS lore, but I did pay fairly close attention because it was a somewhat original concept.
