This was always what I inferred. They made this one album, decided it wasn't good enough and they wanted to start over, and in between those two events Bob just 'decided' to split. If I were in Bob's shoes, I would have been pissed too.

And then a few years later they release the album that supposedly wasn't good enough for public consumption, after split over the decision of not publishing it. It had to feel like a slap in the face.
