I couldn't refill my epilepsy meds, because the pharmacy was closing as I walked in, and they wouldn't keep it open for me long enough to get my prescription. I'm leaving town tomorrow, and there's almost no chance of me getting a refill where I'm going.

So I'm going half dose for the next 12 days.

I also feel like a fucking leech, and my sense of self efficacy is taking a massive blow. I had to ask for a ride six times today, and I am done. I am so done. I would rather have seizures than ask for any more favors. I am fucking done.

I don't know if you can do this where you live, but is it possible to go to a hospital pharmacy?

Nope. Nearest hospital is 20 miles away, along with the nearest pharmacy.

I am very sorry this happened and I promise you I am not trying to be a jerk here, but I have friends who work in pharmacies and they encounter situations like this all the time. I will tell you what they say:

If you know that you're leaving on a trip, and you need your medication and you won't be able to refill it while you're away, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO RUN TO THE PHARMACY. Your situation sucks and I understand you're not trying to be a special snowflake, but the problem is that they deal with special snowflakes every single day, which is why they don't stay late to fill prescriptions for people who walk in before closing.

I recommend seeing if your insurance will cover a mail order pharmacy where you can keep track of prescriptions online. Then see if your doctor is willing to write you prescriptions for like, 90 days instead of the usual 30 days. Mail order pharmacies will often allow you to put your meds on automatic refill if you store your credit card info with them, and there'll be far less chance of running out.

Again, I'm very sorry, and I hope you're okay.

Trust me, I realize all of this. They can't do anything about store policy, nor would I want them to jeopardize their jobs by making an exception for me, regardless of my condition.

I was more angry at myself for not being more proactive than at the pharmacy techs, but for irl reasons that no one needs to know or will give a shit about, I didn't have a chance to pick it up til today.

Although next time I see my neurologist, I'll ask about do something more than 30 days, because I move location from month to month, usually right around the time my prescription runs out. (Which also fucks with the mail order thing, because most times with the amount of time it takes the script to ship, I'm already gone from the location it's shipping to.)

And no worries, I'm sure I'll be fine. I've been meaning to go on half dose for different reasons anyway, so this unfortunately provides me unwitting opportunity to do so.
