The thing I realized is that in the Sleepy Hollow fandom, there are people (people who also make secrets for FS!) who loathe the Ichabod/Abbie pairing soooo much that they think everything is an Ichabbie conspiracy. It's not so much that they like Katrina, they just resent anything happening to her because underneath their tinfoil hat, they're convinced the writers are only bringing Katrina down so that the Ichabbie Apocalypse can begin.

Speaking as a fan who has no ships in this show and therefore no dogs in this fight, I think they're nuts.

I'll say this: I have no issue with Ichabbie. I like both characters and think they'd make an adorable couple. But some of the shippers are batshit. They remind me of the Zutara shippers -- I love Zuko, I love Katara, and although I preferred a more sibling aspect to their relationship, I think a romance could have worked between them. But GodDAMN if some of the Zutara shippers weren't nuts.

The Ichabbie shippers are like that -- except they're worse because they're race baiters and they seem to think that because Abbie is black and Katrina is white, that gives them a free pass on their misogyny.

(Note, I'm aware that it's not all Ichabbie shippers that are like this. But the minority of them that are is vocal.)

I don't like or dislike Ichabbie (but I like both Ichabod and Abbie and their partnership), but I think that everything that was done to Karina in the last few episodes was for the sake of Ichabbie in an attempt to gain the (Ichabbie) fandom (and the ratings) back.

Yep, you're one of the people referred to re: the Ichabbe Apocalypse conspiracy. I know that fandom has some serious blinders on when it comes to fandom vs. mainstream media, but I think you're vastly overestimating just how important shippers are to ratings. Fandom is a vocal minority, not the majority they seem to think they are. The rest of the viewing audience doesn't really give a shit about hardcore shipping, and that's who TV shows cater to, not tumblr tinhatters.

And you missed the "I'm not an anti-shipper" part? I'm not even invested on this and I don't think there's a conspiracy, just that the last decisions were made thinking in using them to recover the ratings.

I'm guessing you also missed the "we will fix all" answer to the criticism during the break. Or the so many canons that have made an het ship canon because it was so popular with the audience (because *gasp* people not in fandom also ship and express their opinion) and the ratings were falling. This is not new, really.
