Awkward/shameful/embarrassing things you wish you hadn't done/said

About a week before high school graduation, my senior class went on a trip to an amusement park. When it was time to go back, I took a seat in the front. This girl I knew came up to me with a friend, and went, "excuse me, can you move? We need to sit here."

I thought they were just being pushy, so I kept saying no (all the while wondering why someone who was normally nice enoughwas being a bully). Finally the girl with her said, "she has migraines, she has to sit up front."

I felt really bad for assuming she was just being petty. :/ (And no, there was nowhere else up front for her to sit.)

Well, it's not like you could've known, and they should've just clarified that in the first place. I'm still not sure what the connection between migraines and sitting up front is.

Eh I don't think you should feel bad about it. She should have said from the beginning that she had a medical reason to be sitting up front. I think most people would assume they were just being pushy.

(Though I'm not really sure how sitting in the front would help with migraines? I'm not saying it wouldn't, I'm just a bit confused.)

AYRT - Thanks! And I've been confused about that since it happened myself. The only thing I can think is that maybe she thought it would be quieter up front?

Easier access to ask the driver to stop if you're going to be sick (nausea's pretty common with migraines, as is motion sickness), and if she got tunnel vision or vertigo as part of the package, being closer to the front is less likely to further aggravate that. It doesn't help in the sense that it alleviates the symptoms, but it can help manage them.

Well, what can you do but assume if someone doesn't explain themselves?

If she knew you (and vice versa) then it is possible she thought you knew about her medical issues? In which case I guess she'd be assuming you knew and were being an asshole despite that.

Either way, it's hardly anything either of you need to feel bad about. A bit awkward for the equal levels of misunderstanding maybe, but not bad.

(And as someone who gets migraines, sitting anywhere with a clearer view - but especially in moving vehicles, and especially if you're travelling at night or it was likely to get dark during the journey because headlights holy fuck no - means there's less stuff moving around and 'flickering' in your field of vision that could trigger one.)

I was on a work trip with some other people. They passed by a woman they knew and said 'Hi Cookie."

I only heard the 'Cookie' part and had a cracker that had fallen on the ground. I said "No, it's a cracker."

They looked at me like I had three heads and it took a minute before the pieces fit together. This is such a stupid, petty thing, but I still feel like the biggest doofus in the world over it.

Did they assume you were being racist ("cracker" can be a term for a white person)?

I don't think so. I think they just thought I was a lunatic. I'm only a little darker than milk myself, so racism wouldn't make much sense in this case.

When I was a kid, we took a trip to the mall. And in the window of one of the stores was an animatronic Crypt Keeper. I got super excited and yelled, "LOOK! IT'S THE CRIPPLE!" There was a guy in a wheel chair like two people down from me. : /

I don't even really feel embarrassment any more even for this but... I wish I could take back all the drunken groping and confessions I've done over the years.

Well, I don't remember this and it makes me laugh, despite how bad and possibly offensive this is, but when I was little, before Chucky Cheese, there was Showbiz Pizza. Had animatronic animals, a gorilla, and a few others that I don't remember. I just remember the gorilla.

WELL, me, my mom, and my grandmother were there one day to treat me and there was this older, kind of big, black lady in front of us. Being a kid, I had no idea this would be bad, but I pointed at her all excited like said "Monkey Showbiz!! Mama, Monkey Showbiz!!" My mom and grandmama had to shush me up real quick before the lady could hear and get pissed off. :X

If I could remember it at all, I'd be suitably embarrassed, but the visual of little kid me doing that is fucking hilarious.

Not that I wish I hadn't said it, but when I first heard the word "twat" I assumed it was another word for "twit." So I used it to a friend, who was so shocked that I'd say it.

Then I looked it up on urban dictionary. It so does not mean the same thing as "twit."
