I am freaked the fuck out. I was just dropping off some mail at one of those drive up mailbox thingies ( pretty late at night, 12:30AM or so) and someone started banging on my passenger side car door and trying to get in. I pulled away as fast as I could and only got a glance at the person - looked like a girl, longish hair and a mini skirt - but didn't stick around.
Some ten minutes later, I figured I should maybe call the cops, so I did on a non-emergency number and ended up babbling like an idiot, that I hope I didn't hit that person, etc.
Then I called my brother who basically called me an idiot for dropping off mail so late at night, babbling to the dispatcher about maybe hitting the person and that I probably got myself in trouble just saying I maybe hit them.
Granted, dropping off mail was probably not the best idea, but I've been doing that for years without an incident. But just talking to the dispatcher and babbling, I mean, yeah, not the most sensible thing to do but my nerves were shot. And now on top of it, I'm worried I might somehow get in trouble for driving away and saying I "probably" didn't hit the person trying to get into my car. How the fuck am I in the wrong here?

Well leaving the scene would be illegal afaik, even if the person was trying to get in your car. But for their sake I hope they weren't in trouble and just panicking when they tried to open your door

Eta: ftr I don't blame you for leaving I would have too

Thanks. To be clear, Im sure I didnt hit anyone (the person was upright and even seemed to be talking on a phone as I drove away), but being the weirdo that I am I automatically assume Im in the wrong somehow, so that was my very first thought once I drove away.

Sorry FS. Looking over what I wrote, I realize I'm a bit of a dumbass for basically saying I might've hit somebody with my car (though that is the first thing I thought of) and that this probably isn't the place to post things like that anyway.

Aww sucks anon. Maybe have a cup of tea or do something calming?

That's scary--not knowing if she was dangerous or needed help. I would've reacted much the same way.

Whoa, that's freaky as hell! I don't blame you for the way you reacted, I probably would have reacted in a very similar way. I work the graveyard shift so doing things in the middle of the night doesn't really seem odd to me until someone points out to me how dangerous it can be.

I'm assuming maybe the person who tried getting in your car was drunk and probably mistook you as someone they knew coming to pick them up. Hopefully, nothing happened to them and they are fine.

Something similar actually happened to me one time -- dude was drunk and thought my little hatchback was his cab.
