Text: I really hate how the fandom’s excused him for everything he did because “it was all for love!”. Being in love doesn’t make what he did okay. Nothing does. B!S: He’s also still not canonically gay. There is room in fiction for bi people who are not named Korra or Asami.

I agree there is always room for bi characters, but I think the general idea behind the robots in MTMTE (and the current IDW Transformers as a whole) is that they're, by default, all gay because they are a one-gendered race. This is obviously and recently been turned on their heads with the introduction of Windblade and co. from Camien and prior to that, Arcee (in that very unfortunate implication spotlight comic.) But otherwise, gay is the norm in Cybertron because it's the default.

Admittedly, I dropped MTMTE some time ago, but I never got the impression from the canon that they were a "one-gendered race". Unless it's explicitly stated I'm going to say anon's anger over the fans' assumptions of gayness to be justified. There's no reason to assume that Transformers can't adopt different gender identities.

"Transformers are a one-gendered race so gay" doesn't cut it when they could be fucking humans or Quintessons or quad-gendered rock creatures from Mars.

Well, a lot of these are going by various twitter/tumblr statements from the current writers James Roberts, John Barber, and Margiheed Scotts who treat the Cybertronians as a one-gendered race (read: male as the default.) Especially in light of the recent appearance of more female robots in the recent continuity. So that's what I was going by.

Who is he and what did he do?

Brainstorm, the one on the right, was planning to travel back in time to prevent a guy he was in love with from dying alone in a decepticon-run prison. The plan then escalates to stopping the war entirely by preventing key events in Megatron's miner past from happening, in turn saving more lives. Except he can't, and tries to resort to a killing baby hitler approach.

Also he poisoned all his crewmates as a distraction, and he is a double agent :)

Ngl, I dig time travelling story tropes that are all about saving a loved one. And especially when they're failures based on predestination (which awesomely makes the LL crew responsible for their own fuckups and more technically).

Idk why you'd be mad about fans tossing around "gay" over listing out every semantic possibility when they're focusing on specific canonical totally gay and unrequited feelings. Ofc, by actual technicality, using human sexuality terms doesn't make sense since iit's not even clear if robot gender factors into—

Wevs. Brainstorm is awesome and did nothing wrong :y

If he would do anything for love, did he at least play Meat Loaf while he did it?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, he just wouldn't do that.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
+1 lol, would lol again.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes Korra and Asami are such great representation!!! nevermind they became canon bec 'girl on girl is hot' lmao.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
why are there so many bitter anti-korrasami shippers on F!S lol

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
IKR? It's quite bizarre.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
but he... didn't actually do anything aside from poisonong the crew? (and knocking out past-Rung but w/e)
(there gonna be SPOILERS) you can summ up everything he's done as "build a time-machine to try to prevent war from happening and save a lot of lives". does that sounds evil too you, OP??? it's not about it being FOR LOVE, too. it's just in the end he didn't managed to harm anyone and he didn't even intended to harm anyone in the first place? (his plan to kill Megatron only came up because he didn't manage to stop the war any other way though he tried)

and lmao wow WOW are you serious about Bi erasure in mtmte? the kinds of relationships in IDW-verse are so ambiguous noone has enough canon-ground to argue about characters being gay or bi - all thanks to canon refusing to explain cybertronian gender properly. literally, there is no statement on the gender in this verse, only bits and pieces. and guessing by those bits even calling cybertronians gay is incorrect.
but even disregarding all that, Brainstorm only was in contact with Nautica (the only other-gendered robot he could develop romantic feelings for) recently, maybe few months at best, and before that there were no femmes in his life at all. and he started the project and the machine millions of years ago. idk can you even argue you may be bi if you never met the other gender before?... isn't it like... arguing someone can be into uh... idk this sounds rather weird. is this really only because of the Nautica? I mean don't get me wrong, but this way you can argue everyone's bi because they never been exposed to different gender before so they don't know for sure they're gay?

I feel like all of the fans who get offended over bi/gay relationship representation need to chill about it. canonical bi character would be someone either saying they're bi, or someone having romantic attraction to two characters with different genders (i. e. korrasami), and same goes for any other sexuality - it should be either stated or shown. if there's neither happening in canon, then character being bi or gay is a headcanon, and it's okay to have those whatever they are AS LONG AS YOU REALISE it's just a headcanon. like noone will/should be against someone headcanoning Brainstorm as bi, why not. why headcanoning him as gay is erasure tho? and headcanong him gay is more common because yeah no femmes on cybertron for millions of years so gay is kinda defolt.

but you know, even when I think about it... there are gay people who dated different genders before they realised they're gay. there are asexuals and bi people who dated someone and had sex and then realised they're what they are. it's just comes back to what the person feels and identifies with, so the only way to know for sure is through their own words, but media tends to make things as much ambiguous as it can for that exact reason.
