Drink and keep banging through this terrible thing I'm writing. It's original work, which I have a problem committing to because my esteem and self-consciousness is set at 'Bullshit.' I figure if I just bulldoze through something and get it done, I'll realize that I can fix it however the hell I want. It's not stuck being a piece of junk.

I dunno. Also I just want to write this really pulpy space murder thing featuring dead gods. It's total nonsense.

First drafts are going to be shitty, and the magic of writing is in the rewrite. Hell, I am writing a space werewolf right now--and I finally realized on, like, my sixth round of edits that it was broken completely and needed a rewrite from nearly the ground up.

I'm rooting for you. :)

Thanks! It's mostly a motivation/esteem thing; I get so hung up on the rough parts that I do the thing you're not supposed to and try to edit on the fly. This is a nice way to end up with several drafts that go precisely nowhere, instead of one big hot mess you can maybe shape. So this is my way of trying to break that habit.

I bet it will turn out better than you think it is going to. That is how it always is. How much farther have you gotten into it? It it for anything in particular or just for fun?

I've really only just started in the last couple of days. I wanted to finish up a fandom project first, because if I lose momentum on something I tend to have a rough time picking it back up. Prep's been about a week; did over 4,000 words in two days of work, which is something. Barely begun, though.

The goal is to have a finished novel, just 60k+ words of something that tells a story and isn't a fanfic. Bonus if it's a workable, sellable novel after a bunch of processing. But even if this one gets trunked (because it is intended outright to be a weird piece of crap), I'm hoping this will help push me to the more planned-out project.

Writing is what I want to do, what I love doing. It's my own fears that keep me from really focusing on it, so. Gotta deal with it.

Ah. I bet you'll be able to get past your fears. Getting started is the hardest part.
