But that wouldn't have made any sense. I mean, except in a Lisbon-is-suddenly-teasing-him-to-be-mean way.

Well, I guess you could interpret her actions throughout the series as a mix of "keep your enemies close" and massive trolling, but it would really mess up the emotional beats on rewatch.

This is the first show I actually dropped. I NEVER drop shows no matter how bad they get. But I did with this one after Jane supposedly killed Red John but then that wasn't Red John and Jane didn't go to prison.

I was just so angry they took back such a stellar development and went back to exactly how it was before.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I watched through to the end, but I don't think the show was ever as good after that. I know the term "jump the shark" is thrown around too much now, but I think that was their "jump the shark" moment. They should never have gone there if they were just going to end up taking it all back, not to mention the real Red John resolution ended up being kind of lame.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not surprised by that. I find that the longer you wait to reveal a villain or some other hyped character, the rarer it is that character could ever live up to expectations -- especially on a TV show where they were probably evolving RJ's storyline from season to season.
cloud_riven: Actor Terry Kinney's bald head sliding up and down from behind a hotdog. (Bosco/Hot Dog = OTP)

I dropped it shortly after that too :(

It wasn't that I thought the show stopped being fun, well okay maybe a little, but that I just wasn't up for Red John getting dragged out when it would have been perfect imo had he died when everyone thought he did.

I understand being a bit annoyed by the fluffiness of it. But honestly, I really don't get the fans that wanted this kind of twist. I still see comments from fans that were disappointed that Jane didn't turn out to be Red John in the end, or that wanted Lisbon or Van Pelt to be RJ or working for RJ, and I just don't get it. I mean, the show had dark undertones, but not that dark. It was a mostly lighthearted CBS procedural, not Dexter. To me, it would have undermined the entire series, and I wouldn't ever be able to watch it again.

THIS REALLY NEEDED A GODDAMN SPOILER WARNING. For fucks sake.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
For...a wedding dress?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
For two distinctive looking characters getting married?? Yes yes it needs a fucking spoiler warning. OP is a dick.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
no, you're a moron for getting upset about spoiler warnings when you know damn well there's a chance everytime you visit here

either suck it up like the adult or leave

It's called common courtesy, anon. Clearly you are unfamiliar with the concept. Maybe brush up on how to interact with people, even when posting anon on a forum like FS.

i'm just saying when you're warned everytime you click a post a thing may happen and you get upset when it finally does, you're an egocentric moron

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't like spoilers? Don't go on the internet, dumbass. That's the risk you take when you go on the internet.
Why does everyone have to censor themselves for you?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
This episode aired about a month ago, and has been covered on probably every US entertainment site. I'm not the OP, but I can see why they might not think it would still need a spoiler warning. It's not like it just aired.

This secret makes me glad I dropped the show. One of the reasons I LIKED The Mentalist (back in the day) is that it didn't have a relationship between the two leads - My Mum continued to watch it and when I realised it was heading down that route in the last? season I was grateful I dropped it when I did.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
same as soon as they started hinting at it I dropped it like it was hot

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I know chemistry is subjective, but I never got how they got so popular as a ship, because I never saw it. They were great as friends, tho.

Did they ever find Christina/Kristina or whatever the name of that psychic was again btw?
dragonimp: (Oh noes!)

[personal profile] dragonimp 2015-03-15 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. Completely dropped. Like a lot of other things.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
They found her awhile back, but she's been institutionalized since then IIRC. Red John somehow brainwashed her into thinking she was dead, and Jane was unable to break through to her. The only way they could communicate was by Jane holding fake seances, and then she would talk to him "from the other side."

Well I guess now I know how their relationship ends up, not that it's too surprising.

The series was never that dark anyway so I don't really mind the fluffier things atm, even if I kind of wish they hadn't gone for Jane/Lisbon I don't find it that bad so I can deal. Plus Cho is still there, so I'll keep on watching 'till the end for him.

I can never get over the name of this series. All I can ever hear is Alan Partridge's voice in my head shouting "You complete mentalist!"

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I was happy with the ending but it felt kinda rushed and I'm pretty sure I've read a fic like it before. A darker ending would have been awesome though Anon, I agree with you there.

Image: Lisbon and Jane’s wedding

Text: I have been a Jane/Lisbon shipped since I started watching 7 years ago I was so happy they got together in the end and there was a huge party and everything.

Secret: In general, fandom seems content with the series finale. I’m disappointed that they played it so safe and mundane. I started watching because they had this fabulous dark undertone but it became so fluffy by the end that I was just watching because it was routine. I would have LOST MY SHIT (in a good way) if in the final scene when these two hugged she would’ve whispered “Tyger, Tyger” and then it cut out.

Why such a downer, self? :(

I felt like this whole last season was them playing it safe. I liked the new characters and the storylines were fine for the most part, but it seemed like a season and a half of self-indulgence/happily ever after fanfic-like wanderings.
