I don't know if you watch Gravity falls, but the second to most recent episode has a character with a rich and corrupted family, at the end she was able to defy her family and prove that she can be different from them. I'm sure your family is not the same (for example, not corrupted) but you are can go beyond them, you can become someone of your own. Your family and your blood don't decide who you are.

One of my favourite quotes goes "Road forms where people walk"*. I believe you can make your own path. I wish you all the luck.

May not be entirely correct since I translate it from my language, but the base meaning is the same.

Never watched Gravity Falls, but it looks interesting from what I've read on F!S and other places, so I might one day!

I try to balance appreciating my family and not being too influenced by them. You're right, they're not corrupt, and they're capable of treating people well too, so completely rejecting them like how wanted to at times (hello, whiny teenage self) is extreme and impractical. But I have to be aware I don't copy those outlooks and habits that can be improved, and keep gaining confidence to stand up for what I believe.

I've heard quotes with similar meanings, but I don't remember hearing that particular one before! Thanks for the knowledge and your thoughtful reply :)

Text: I identified with William.

My family aren’t nobility, but we’re privileged enough, and they can be pretty narrow-minded.

I even wanted to be a journalist around when I read this. Later, I became one for a while, but was bad at the job. And it was at a sensationalist tabloid (long story, just know I didn’t go in thinking I could change things).

Now I know that’s not for me, but I still want to accomplish something good to show I can move beyond my family…because William did.

PS: We’re not white by any definition.
