I agree completely with this secret. I hate this movie, and Franco makes it worse. But that bit about the inventions was kind of sweet.

Oh god I couldn't even find the movie passable. I saw it not that long ago and I was SO glad I never saw it in theaters because it was just a horrible movie and Franco was terrible in it.

That movie had so much potential but the acting was horrible all around. I have never seen an entire movie so miscast since Coppola's Dracula. If RDJ had stayed on as Oz we would have had an entirely different movie. He can play a swarmy guy that you want to punch and then take him out of a beer afterward as well as knows how to act in front of a greenscreen. Franco so does not. Ugh. So much wasted potential.

I'd still have a problem with the storyline and particularly the fact that they took this series that has women at its center and made a man the main character and did what they did to the witch characters.

I find I don't care for most of the adaptations of Wizard of Oz. Return to Oz and the ABC animated series are the only ones I can watch over and over again, but then again Return to Oz seemed to combine several of the books together and the ABC animated series is all about nostalgia for me.

I don't know, I think Oz is an interesting character and I'd like to see a good version of his story. I don't really care that they made a single movie about him after quite a lot of books, a very famous movie, and a famous musical all centered around important female characters.

+1 I could deal with it being a cheesy movie but what they did to the witches actually made me angry.

Everything about the concept of this movie annoys me /bitter book fan

Yes! But I feel this way about everything Oz related pretty much. I'm still bitter that the only faithful adaption is the cartoon. And that no one has done Emerald City yet.

Why do they keep having to make up random stories when there are so many actual book ones that haven't been told yet.

I know!
Yes it's true that Oz kind of wasn't always entirely on the rails (I mean he incorporated tons of random ideas from fans, and you can feel that he didn't always really have inspiration etc), but the world has tons of entertaining ideas and very cute storylines that really should be adapted.
I mean fricking Ozma, I really want a good movie with her.

It's like nowadays everybody is so locked onto the franchise idea, they're afraid if something seems the least bit weird or unfamiliar nobody will watch.

I thought it was a barely passable movie, made worse by Franco’s presence.

But I teared up when Oz talked about invention at the start.
