"Twitter lynch mob" - lol u.

After what they did to Justine Sacco, I say the shoe fits. Not that she was completely in the right, or anything, no. The overkill of the reaction that costs people their livelihoods, and in some cases, their lives, for the sake of a few glowing electrons floating on a screen, is what leads me to label them that way.

Are you suggesting that Douglas Adams might conceivably tweet something blatantly outright racist?? I think most of his fans would strongly disagree.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know what this was, so I looked it up....

I'm less annoyed by the racism of that tweet than by its stupidity.

No, I'm saying people wouldn't get Adams' brand of satire (because it has a very very very thin edge) and the Twitter mentality would basically take over from the word go, of reading his posts.

Remember #cancelcolbert? What else would you call that?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know they'd actually strung anyone up and murdered them, my bad.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
If you want to avoid saying "lynch mob", maybe "feeding frenzy"? No, that implies there actually is something of substance...

I dunno, I understand that some people want to reserve "lynch mob" for things as serious as actual lynch mobs, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a good substitute.

Completely ineffective?
