IDK, Religulous was pretty on the nose, for me, and I'm Christian....why all the Bill Maher hate in this thread, anons? A lot of what he says about organized religion is spot-on.

It isn't what he says per say it is the way he says it. I do think a lot of what he says is spot on, but he goes out of his way to be offensive.

Eh, everyone has an attitude problem, to one degree or another. If Maher isn't emotionally mature enough to recognize he has one, and change it (if he even wants to change it, if he recognizes it), that's on him. It's the message, not the messenger.

Which is exactly the point organized Christianity misses completely, but that's neither here nor there.

Theory: Bill Maher is generally an extremely annoying smug cock. So people will dislike him in whatever capacity they encounter him.

Don't have any strong opinions on Maher (I don't pay attention to him), but I get where philstar is coming from. Sometimes it isn't so much the content of what's being said, but the way the person expresses it.

Maher can be spot on but he can also be a dick who has his own prejudices and I think it can be tough for people to get past the "he's a dick" part and appreciate when he's right.

For some people once you've crossed a line with them, they never want to agree with you. I don't generally see things as that black and white but it's not an uncommon stance.

(raised lib Christian, more or less agnostic, fwiw)

It annoys me that he uses misogyny as part of his religious tirades, while being pretty sexist himself.

It baffles me that he claims to be a smart skeptic but goes off on all kinds of antivax, anti-germ theory tirades. It's a lot easier to prove that antivax is ridiculous than it is to prove that God absolutely positively does not exist.
