New webcomics sought

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I've noticed my regular webcomics list has shortened in the last year with a lot of them either finishing up their run (Shortpacked, you were awesome; Dumbing of Age, you suck as a replacement) or dropping to just one comic a week or less. So I'm open to any suggestions on replacements, something with humor and a bit of surrealism if not outright fantasy, regular update schedules (at least twice a week) and half decent art. And no f--king Homestuck, please.

Please suggest something for me.

Broodhollow.

Although it's on hiatus now. But it's really, really fantastic and right up your alley.

Broodhollow--note, this is on a break right now AFAIK, but there's a TON of old content.
Paranatural
Cucumber Quest
Unsounded
Wilde Life
String Theory (also probably on break?)
Camp Weedonwantcha

Things that only update once per week but otherwise fit your criteria:
The Last Halloween
Skin Deep
Battlepug

Might be good to list what you already read so there's no repeats, but in all my years on here I've never seen anyone mention Sam and Fuzzy. The early years are a bit rough as it started out as a gag-a-day strip but Sam Logan has really ballooned it into an interesting comic with a lot of neat twists -- and he still manages to get a joke into every strip.

Yup! I feel like he's building up towards a conclusion but it's probably still a ways away as he's not made any hints about the closure of the comic. It's making him too much money! He has a tendency to do things that majorly shake up the status quo, so maybe that "gee is it ending" feeling I'm getting is just the approaching end of the current era of the comic.

I seem to have accrued a lot of superhero webcomics somehow:

http://www.oursupermom.com/ Our Super Mom is a superhero and a mother of young children. It's pretty solid. Good action-drama and domestic/SF drama.
http://www.superbitchcomic.com/ Superbitch! is very snarky.
http://grrlpowercomic.com/ Grll Power is very genre-aware and has lots of action and humour.
http://www.spinnyverse.com/ Spinnerette has a light enough touch to undermine the body horror nightmare fuel of lots of weird physical transformations. And it has a F/F couple. And lots of jiggly boobs in the early chapters if you like that kind of thing. No, I don't know hey they jiggle in a static medium, they just do, OK?

Well, that was an interesting coding error

Yeah, dreamwidth doesn't you have clickable links if you're anon, it just throws the text off next to it and bolds it instead.

I wanted to like Spinnerette, but I got fed up with it when the author cut out what seemed to be a plot-important arc and made it only available in a book for purchase.

With all those, you might also like Strong Female Protagonist.

I hesitate to rec it because it started off very shaky, but El Goonish Shive gets progressively better and better. The plot's fairly standard urban fantasy--various teenagers pull back the veil of everyday life and find the supernatural threats behind it--but the characters have developed into an interesting and complex set. It's a pretty quick read, so I'd say just work through the beginning. Once you've gotten to New and Old Friends, you should know whether it's your sort of comic.

Oglaf? It's NSFW but otherwise fits the criteria. Fantasy and a regular schedule sometimes it has an arc sometimes it's gag a week.
