I'm a classical music newbie, and my guilty pleasure is the stuff that just destroys you with every chord. Any recs?

Oh wow, Arvo Pärt! I'm so happy someone else appreciates him. He's one of the most prominent national composers of my second homeland <3

Lacrimosa's definitely one of my current favourites, too. And I'll go listen to the rest - thank you! Based on the ones I recognize, I think I'll end up liking all of them.

I hope you enjoy! I tend to listen to OSTs more than non-movies ones. :X

Technically Romantic-period, but I tear up just thinking about Chopin's Études. I don't know what it is.

Chopin's Nocturnes may just be the one piece of music in this world that always (or nearly always) manages to calm me down and take my anxiety away. And I see that there's a recording of Pollini (whom I admire) playing Etudes on YT. Thank you so much!

+1

Étude Op. 10, No. 12 in C flat (or the Revolutionary Étude as it's also known as) for the most dramatic imo.

Chopin is one of my favourite composers in general really (if I could have one song just follow me around for the rest of my life it would most likely be his Nocturne Op. 9, No. 2 in E flat major).

Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings wrecks me every single damn time.
