Because a pairing seemed right up my alley (Steve/Danny, H50), and actresses or actors I like and/or find attractive. (Various, but I've watched some questionable shit for Sebastian Stan.)

Uh, wanting to know what the big fuss was about (Harry Potter, though I didn't finish), nice graphics (XIII, though again, I still haven't finished that damn game), "Why the hell not, I'm bored" (various).

There are probably other reasons.

Would you watch The Apparition for Seb, though? I really, really couldn't.

Couldn't remember what it was, but...maybe I'd try? (If it's on netflix. I ain't going to any effort to watch this, lol.)

I did watch The Architect and The Covenant for him and both were so fucking terrible I almost didn't finish. I almost never hate movies (and rarely do I not finish a movie once I start watching), but even his pretty couldn't save those films. They had no redeeming value as far as I'm concerned.

The Covenant! Wasn't that actually a bit of a thing in fandom like a couple years back? I remember a few people on LJ talking about how hilari-bad (yet pretty) it was.

No lies, five minutes into The Apparition I turned to my roommate and said, "Why are you subjecting me to this shit show, woman? I'm not into Tom Felton like you are." Then when Sebastian came on I was all, "Oh," and then ten minutes later, "Nope. Not even." So bad.

There are actually a few DW users who enjoy The Covenant and talked about it a good deal after the whole Winter Soldier explosion. I totally respect their opinions, but...

That movie wasn't even hilari-bad for me, it was just bad. It almost caused me physical pain to keep watching, yet I told myself, "Maybe it gets better". It did not. (And there wasn't even that much pretty outside of Sebastian, at least not considering my tastes. Just...hell to the no.)

That bad, huh? Did you walk away or end up doing something else? By about the halfway point of The Architect I was depressed and bored out of my mind, and by the end of the film I was like, "This was a massive waste of time and why would anyone end a movie like that".

I thought about watching The Covenant back when it first came out. I was a Gossip Girl fan who rather appreciated Chace Crawford's vacant prettiness. All for the best I didn't give it a shot, probably.

Well it was Movie Night in our place and the only rule is whoever's doing the choosing for the night gets final say, but if I'd been watching it by myself I'd definitely have turned it off. I guess "Seb Stan is in this" was my roommate's consideration to me -- if only that was enough. She did admit when we were through that the movie was borderline unwatchable.

I can tell you that it was not the least bit depressing (can horror movies even be depressing?) so if that's a major concern to you, rest assured! Can't guarantee your other, finer sensibilities won't be thoroughly offended though :))

LOL. Poor Sebastian Stan seems to be in a fair amount of borderline unwatchable stuff. Maybe since Marvel got their claws in him he'll be cast in some better projects.

And I don't think I've ever seen a depressing horror movie, but I'm not the best person to ask! However, what worries me is quality. Seb is fine, but if the script is that bad then I would probably give up halfway through. (I'm not sitting through another Covenant for him. FOR ANYONE.)

I said the same thing about The Hobbit and Richard Armitage, and yet it didn't really work out like that for me when I went to see Into the Storm. In theater. :))

But you know, after all this back and forth, now I kinda feel like I have to... watch The Covenant. I just gotta know, man, lol. Maybe that'll be my next Movie Night pick, nice bit of revenge.

Wait...are you saying Into the Storm was good, or no? (I've seen very few movies get below 22 on rotten tomatoes, jeez.) And I was wondering what else I could watch with Armitage... maybe not that one.

LOL. I'll be amazed if you make it fifteen minutes into the film, but be sure to post about the experience if you give it a try! I want to know if you brave through the entire thing.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh it was total shit, but I guess it could be fun if you watched it with friends and made a game out of counting all the times Richard's accent slips. Kinda mean, but I think it's fair given that I bought a ticket to that movie to "support his Hollywood career". Oh lawd. I'd rewatch North and South 20 times before putting myself through something like that again.

Yeah, if you see an expletives-filled Covenant secret pop up say a week from now, just consider it From Anon, With Love, hahaha.

Oh, he does an accent? Haha, some people just can't do accents... I know I can't. I would probably watch this over Seb's horror film because I have a hardcore weakness for Armitage, but it doesn't sound good. (And he's been excellent in basically everything I've seen him in, even the so so stuff.) I adore North and South though... I could watch that again and again. He cuts such a striking figure.

I look forward to it!

I watch stupid shit for actors I love, but I rarely get "into" them. I just watch them to say I did.

For me it really depends on how good the thing is. A lot of it isn't so great so yea, once I'm done watching I won't bother again.

I saw so many fucking stupid movies because I love Hugh Laurie.

I think I tried watching one of Seb's more terrible films(can't remember which one) and I noped out in like 10 minutes, it was just... so bad. Which wasn't his fault mind you, but agh, no. Not even for him could I make it through.

I've been tempted to watch Kings and Political animals for him though, but I also know that at least one of them is horrifically depressing for his character. I don't know if I could do that to myself.

Was it The Covenant? I loathed that movie but still finished it just to see if it would get any better. (And to be able to stay I watched it, lol.) I don't mind camp on principle but nothing about that movie appealed to me. Not even Sebastian.

Both Kings and Political Animals are quite good! Or, well, I consider Kings quite good and Political Animals is actually fantastic. Both his characters have depressing stories, but I think they both end in a salvageable place? (Plus, he's so pretty when he cries.)

It might have been, not entirely sure. All I know is that I couldn't watch it(it might have been something to do with demonic stuff or supernatural shenanigans?).

Hmmmm, I am most tempted. I might have to see if I can find a stream of them at some point because they do look interesting, and you're quite right, he cries good.

Huh, an anon mentioned a horror film he was in so it could have been that one, but Covenant def had supernatural shenanigans too. Don't know, but either way I don't blame you for quitting. Poor Seb has been in some bad stuff. I hope he gets better projects now that he's been in a big Marvel production and more people know of him.

You should! Political Animals in particular was excellent and he did some good acting in that mini-series. It isn't long either. (I think about six episodes?) Kings is a bit longer, but not much.

Ha, yeah. Poor guy has been in some terrible movies, but as you said maybe his luck will be better now?

Oooh, if they're only like 6-8 episodes long that's much more manageable to watch. I was worried they'd be like a 24 episode series each and that's a lot more to go through, even if it is good. Hmmm, hmmmm.
