There are shows with terrible first episodes that are pretty good.

But we're talking about Lucky Star. There's not much to introduce or build up, since it doesn't have a plot, and it's a comedy series. If the person watching doesn't find anything good in the first episode then they probably won't like the show. It's not objectively good. Learn to live with the fact that some people don't like what you like.

the initial episode had very heavy backlash and caused the original director to be fired from kyoani after 4 episodes

if it's not op's thing that's fine, but the first episode is not representative of the series as a whole
