I need a thriller to watch

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Or horror without a lot of gore.

I tried watching Into The Woods. Then i remembered I hate Johnny Depp and Chris Pine. Also, sort of don't really like musicals. But I liked the idea of a movie that sort of makes fun of fairytales.

So now I am looking for a thriller or horror without gore. Some ones I liked Manchurian Candidate, The Thing, Rosemary's Baby, Se7en, Memento, Fargo, The Departed, Zodiac, Shutter Island.

Would prefer a movie less than 25 years old.

Does it have to be English-language? Because Korea has turned out some amazing thrillers in recent years and I'd wholeheartedly recommend them if you're okay with subtitles. The Chaser and I Saw the Devil sound like exactly what you need.

If it's got to be English then 30 Days of Night is one I find to be very good, and very underrated.

No it does not! As long as there are subtitles

Okay then! You've probably heard of Oldboy -- it's exactly as good as it's made out to be, so definitely check it out. Memories of Murder is another that everyone talks about; I actually prefer this director's latest film, Snowpiercer, but that one is sci-fi action (mostly English-language though). Sympathy for Lady Vengeance and the sequel are interesting in that extremely stylized, Tarantino-inspired way.

Oh man, if you care at all for political thrillers, there is an entire swathe of North/South conflict films I can discuss...

*prequel, not sequel

I loved Snowpiercer. What are some other political thrillers you would suggest?

The Yellow Sea is my favorite. It's almost entirely nonpolitical, just makes use of the situation to set up the story. JSA is overtly political but still a thriller at heart. Berlin File is mostly spy stuff, I like it for the badassery of the lead.

The Conjuring
The Woman in Black
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
The Awakening
The Prestige
The Usual Suspects

I really like The Others, El Orfanto, Pans Labyrinth. Apparently The Others was also originally a Spanish movie, but the English version is still a psych thriller and semi-bittersweet ending.

Let The Right One In. As far as I can remember, it doesn't have much gore. But it's SO creepy, damn.
