I think you're taking this a bit too seriously. The internet shouldn't take up so much of your life that you're comparing it to food, and no site will really be healthy.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
it's an analogy, anon

obviously i don't think internet sites are as important as food

"I think you're taking this too seriously, anon. Meanwhile, I will take your food analogy entirely seriously" lol'd

When I said that anon was taking it too seriously, I mean that they're overthinking and overvaluing the issue. You might be thinking of taking something "literally," which is something I tend to do, especially when there's not much in the way of visual cues. It's an easy mistake to make, and sort of funny given the context, but that's okay.

DA

Wouldn't taking the analogy "literally" mean you fail to see the analogy entirely and think anon is actually saying Tumblr is food?

Another vote for "you are absolutely taking this too seriously and it's increasingly hilarious".

I probably am. I'm really bad at detaching people from their internet personas so I end up worrying and giving advice rather than, er, whatever other people do. I guess it's an individual vs community thing.

But McDonald's Chicken Nuggets and potato chips aren't really food? Like they are, but not "staples to live" kind of foods. In fact they're extremely unhealthy and much like candy in the sense that they're more like treats than daily nourishment.

In fact, I eat potato chips and McDonald's Chicken Nuggets maybe once every three months whereas I'm on the internet every single day.

So maybe junk food shouldn't take up so much of your life that you're comparing it to the internet, anon, and nothing covered in grease will really be healthy.

That is...a very specific view on it. I can assure you there are hordes of people who do really consider it food - and yes, the sort they live on.

That doesn't change the fact that they are unhealthy and addictive? Which was the original anon's point for picking them for a comparison.

And if you're referring to people being forced to eat McDonald's because of food deserts, then I absolutely support making fresher, cheaper, healthier food available to everyone. I'm fortunate enough to live in a downtown where there's a grocery store every ten blocks, but I know it's a problem in the industrialized areas south of my city as well as countless other places around the country.

Unhealthy yes, but calling chicken nuggets and potato chips addictive is quite a stretch. I can consume $20 worth of potato chips and not feel cravings for more. I probably can't say that about heroin.

Just because it's not on the same damaging level as heroin, doesn't mean it's not addictive. Also:

http://www.undergroundhealth.com/fast-food-as-addictive-as-heroin-study-confirms/
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21999689

http://www.wcpo.com/news/health/healthy-living/are-ingredients-in-fast-food-addictive-say-it-aint-so

Junk food is addictive. Many sites on the internet are addictive. That doesn't mean they should be avoided entirely, just that people should be aware of it and act accordingly.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-17 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
um yeah pretty sure "unhealthy and addictive" is precisely the analogy anon was going for so I'm not sure why you're arguing with them

what huh

i mean that is

what

(Anonymous) 2015-03-16 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Are you not familiar with analogies or interpreting them? Anon wasn't comparing tumblr to food in terms of how important it is to one's life, anon was comparing one type of food to another as a metaphor for how substantial it is and by extension, how it should be taken in moderation in one's diet, i.e. life.
